Clara grew up on a farm in Upton, Massachusetts where much of her childhood was spent exploring the amazing orchards and woodlands that were so plentiful around her family home. Clara saw the forest as an enormous house that contained endless secrets and mysteries, a veritable feast for her curious imagination. There is no doubt that these childhood memories hold the key to and are the primary source of her creativity. Today her artwork is mostly inspired by nature and sites that are personally significant. Many of her monotypes and paintings either real or imagined are a re-examination of these places.
